Scope and Contents

Collection consists of two copies of a contract between the City of Dallas and M.S. Hasie to construct a dam in Carrollton, Texas.  One copy in the collection is signed by M. S. Hasie and Dallas Mayor W. M. Holland.

The reinforced concrete dam was constructed on the East Fork of the Trinity River near the town of Carrollton, in Dallas County, Texas.  The construction of the dam was intended to provide a source of water for the City of Dallas.  In 1915 M.S. Hasie sued the City of Dallas, claiming that the city failed to pay the construction company $811.59 of the agreed upon contract amount of $27,741.09.  The city claimed that Hasie failed to complete construction of the dam, forcing the city to complete the dam through another contractor. Although the City of Dallas found the contractor in violation of their contract, the district court ruled in favor of Hasie and ordered the City of Dallas to pay the balance of the contract.
