Collection consists of a report generated by the City of Dallas regarding the city's Equal Employment Opportunity/Affirmative Action Plan for 1986 -1991.
Affirmative action refers to employment, educational, health, and other policies that take race, color, religion, gender, or national origin into consideration in order to benefit underrepresented or minority groups, often those with a history of discrimination or persecution. The term "affirmative action" first appeared in Executive Order 10925, signed by President John F. Kennedy on March 6, 1961, aimed at achieving non-discrimination. The City of Dallas instituted an Affirmative Action program in 1975.
