The collection consists of meeting minutes, correspondence and notes relating to the issuance of examinations, licenses, and regulations for electricians and plumbers in Dallas, Texas.

The Examining and Supervising Board of Plumbers and the Examining Board of Electricians were created by city ordinance in 1909. The main goals of the boards were to ensure proper training and licensing of these trades working in Dallas and to review City of Dallas plumbing and electrical codes. Previously, the boards operated under the supervision of the Building Inspection Division in Public Works Department of the City of Dallas and have gone through several title changes. Currently, the boards are combined under the Building Inspection Advisory, Examining and Appeals Board and the board members are appointed by the City Council. The Building Inspection Advisory, Examining and Appeals Board is responsible for protecting the citizens of Dallas through the administration and interpretation of building, electrical, plumbing and mechanical codes.
